Shabbat Schedule & Helpful Information
Description of BJC Shabbat Services When We Can Get Back Together in our Sanctuary:
All of our services embrace music as an integral part of our worship.
The following is our schedule of various services:
First Friday of the Month: N’tivim L’Shabbat (Pathways to Shabbat) Music Service at 7:30 PM
Second Friday of the Month: Traditional Shabbat Service at 7:30 PM
Third Friday of the Month: Simcha B’Shabbat (The Joy of Shabbat) All-Music Service with the Band at 7:30 PM (July & August are regular evening services)
Fourth Friday of the Month: Shabbat Service at 6:30 PM with a “Pre-Neg” before the service. Come before the service, on your way home from work or anywhere, for some hors d'oeuvres, a nosh, a shtickle to eat, and than a short musical service to kick off Shabbat. Then head home for dinner.
Fifth Friday: Shabbat Service at 7:30 PM
Saturday Morning Services: 10 AM (no morning services during July & August)
Several times a year, we hold Shabbat Under the Stars.
HELPFUL HINTS FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS
We’re glad you’re thinking about joining us!
- On Friday evenings, we meet in the Gathering Space directly outside of Covenant Hill. We begin our services promptly at 7:30 PM. After services, we have an oneg reception with the blessings over the wine and challah and enjoy each other’s company and light snacks. The exception is the Fourth Friday of the month, when we meet at 6 PM for a “preneg” of a light nosh before our service, which starts at 6:30 PM.
- On Saturday mornings, our services begin promptly at 10 AM, and are followed by a kiddush, blessings over the wine and challah, follow by a small meal.
- Our services are generally 1.5 hours.
- BJC is informal and most attend wearing casual business attire. We have tallitot (prayer shawls) and kippot (skullcaps) available. Both are optional, but you will find most men wearing kippot. We do tend to dress up for High Holy Days.
- We are located at 6601 Bradley Blvd; Bethesda, MD 20816. We meet on our shared campus with Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church. Parking is ample and free; park in the front or on the side near the playground. Ramps are available at the side door next to the church offices and near Memorial Hall. Check with the office for details so we can be certain those doors are unlocked.
- We are delighted to have children of all ages attend our services. At High Holy Days, we provide babysitting during the traditional services.
- Other questions: call the office at 301-469-8636.
