Widen The Circle: Stories of Hope

Thursday, December 5, 2024 4 Kislev 5785

7:00 PM - 8:00 PMOnline Only

Please join Widen the Circle and Bethesda Jewish Congregation for a conversation about how the power of remembrance is helping people heal from historic injustice, while also helping combat modern bigotry.

Widen the Circle founder Joel Obermayer will share inspiring stories of people doing this work in Germany and creating understanding and reconciliation where none seemed possible. We’ll also discuss why this type of community-based effort is so effective and holds so much hope for the future. Joel began his work as part of a mission to carry on his father’s legacy.

We will be joined by Dr. Karlos K. Hill, a professor of African American studies at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Hill has authored books on the history of racial violence, the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and on their legacies in the black experience. He has participated in Widen the Circle’s fellowship program, a year-long program anchored by a trip that brings American remembrance activists to Germany for an immersive learning experience with their German counterparts.
