Selichot- Film and Service

Saturday, September 28, 2024 25 Elul 5784

6:00 PM - 10:00 PMLounge and Covenant Hall

The month of Elul is a time of soul-searching and reflection to prepare oneself for the Days of Awe. Part of this preparation includes the recitation of Selichot.

In Hebrew, selichot translates to “forgiveness”. The Selichot for High Holy Days are Jewish penitential poems and prayers, with the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy playing a central role.

Join BJC in the Lounge at 6:00 PM for a film viewing of "A Serious Man", an Oscar nominated Coen brothers film that shows  Larry Gopnik, a Midwestern physics teacher, watches his life unravel over multiple sudden incidents. Though seeking meaning and answers amidst his turmoils, he seems to keep sinking. A dairy dinner will be served.

After the film, join Rabbi Abbott in Covenant Hall at 8 PM as we recite Selichot and change our Torah covers to the High Holy Day white.
