What's Happening in Cuba?

Sunday, January 16, 2022 14 Shevat 5782

9:00 AM - 11:00 AMOnline Only

A Conversation with David Prinstein, Co-President of the Jewish Community of Cuba Sunday January 16, 9:00 AM (Online Only) A presentation of The Cuba America Jewish Mission, Bethesda Jewish Congregation, Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church, Tifereth Israel Congregation, and Adas Israel Congregation The challenges of the pandemic to the American Jewish community are well known. For the Cuban Jewish community, add pandemic-exacerbated food shortages, a collapsing medical system, power blackouts, long lines for basic foodstuffs and just about everything else, lockdowns, and a lack of money due to a tightened US-led embargo. The curtailing of flights from the US and other countries to Cuba led to a shortage of almost all common items, food stuffs, and medical supplies. Store shelves are bare. The Jewish community’s free pharmacies (which service both Jews and non-Jews) offered hard-to-find items that we take for granted like diapers, cough and cold medicines, Tylenol and aspirin, but now the shelves of the pharmacies are bare. With a restoration of flights from the US and Europe to Cuba, and control of the virus with 95% of the population inoculated with Cuba's homegrown vaccine, there is now an opportunity to bring in relief. David will speak not only to raise awareness and apprise the audience of the current situation, and to raise funds for the Cuban Jewish community's pharmacies. Zoom Link is in BJC Now.
